Announcing the First Scenario Expansion for the Conan Board Game

8 March 2017 | Conan

"Across the red drifts and mail-clad forms, two figures glared at each other. In that utter desolation only they moved. The frosty sky was over them, the white illimitable plain around them, the dead men at their feet. Slowly through the corpses they came, as ghosts might come to a tryst through the shambles of a dead world. In the brooding silence they stood face to face."
–Robert E. Howard, The Frost-Giant's Daughter

The tale of Conan the Cimmerian may have begun in Cimmeria, but it did not end there. The renowned barbarian traveled far and wide before he became king of Aquilonia. He encountered the men and women of many nations—Shem, Koth, Stygia, and Argos to name but a few. And he battled creatures of legend in the Nordheim nations of Vanaheim and Asgard—frozen lands so far northward that the cultured citizens of Aquilonia had dismissed them as myth.

It was over the course of his adventures in these lands that Conan forged his undying legacy… And you can bring more of that legacy to your table with the upcoming Nordheim scenario expansion for the Conan board game!

Nordheim transports your Conan adventures to the mythical north, where your heroes will confront the red-haired Vanir of Vanaheim and the yellow-haired Aesir of Asgard. Through four scenarios deeply inspired by Robert E. Howard's short story, The Frost-Giant's Daughter, you and your friends will battle atop snowy, blood-drenched fields; cross swords with giants; and travel snow-covered forests in pursuit of the legendary Frost-Giant's daughter.

Twenty-four detailed miniatures, one double-sided game board, a scenario book, twenty-two tiles, eight tokens, and seven cards ensure you'll enjoy hours upon hours of dramatic narratives, heated battles, and heroic endeavors.

Pulse-Pounding Adventures in the Frozen North

While they all require some of your Conan core box, the four asymmetrical scenarios of Nordheim lead to adventures that are markedly distinct from the core box experience.

For starters, they all draw heavily upon the story, setting, and characters from The Frost-Giant's Daughter. You'll trade in your tactical skirmishes with pirates, Pictish warriors, and Bossonian guards for brutal, blood-soaked battles with Vanir, Aesir, and giants. But you won't be confined strictly to the story's text—Nordheim takes a few leaps of faith, imagining the "What If?" situations wherein some of Conan's allies survive their initial battle and accompany him onward. It asks what happens to the bodies of the fallen, suggesting that if Conan had lingered at the battlefield, he may have seen a Stygian necromancer calling the dead to rise into his service.

And, of course, it allows you to imagine yourself as Conan, leaping into action inside one of Robert E. Howard's most enduring tales—the massive battle, the pursuit of Atali, the thunderous confrontation with her giant brethren, and the long, impassioned chase across the ice and snow.

Each of the four scenarios in Nordheim pursues an element of this tale and propels you forward with dramatic action. What's more, the four scenarios are balanced for different numbers of players, so you and your friends will be able to unleash your inner barbarians no matter if there are five of you, four, three, or two. Each of the four scenarios accommodates a different number of players, and in the end, as Conan pursues Atali toward his doom—or hers—it's just you and the Overlord. Conan against a world of legend.

A Stunning Array of Miniatures

The Conan board game remains one of the top hobby game Kickstarters of all time, and while there are many factors that contributed to this success, it owes above all to two things—its iconic, namesake barbarian and the remarkable quality of its miniatures.

Conan ripples with muscle, his allies are sculpted ready to leap into action, and the Overlord's minions range from savage Picts and necromancers adorned in tribal totems to dark demons that you'd be terrified to encounter in a shadowy castle. Not to mention the giant snake that towers over your heroes, fangs bared and ready to strike.

As you might expect, then, Nordheim continues to impress with its miniatures, and you'll find a stunning array of Vanir and Aesir accompanied by flocks of crows that erupt from the ground and hulking giants whose axes speak of death. You'll find Atali's legendary beauty given form in plastic, and you'll find an inspiring new hero ready to fight alongside Conan, wielding a pair of lethal Aesir blades.

And the high quality of these miniatures isn't just for show. These miniatures are sculpted with such care—just as the expansion's double-sided game board is so beautifully illustrated—because they serve a purpose beyond show. They immerse you in the game's struggles. They disguise all the carefully measured math and tactics. They erase the terminology of "energy gems" and "actions." And they transport you into a realm of snow and ice where any misstep—any slip in the heated battles that rage all around you—can spell your doom.

These miniatures allow you to become Conan and his allies. They allow you to become the Overlord, that cruel master of the north who throws his minions against the heroes. They allow you to step into a land and an age of legend.

Live the Legend

Write your legend in the blood of your enemies, or destroy one of the most legendary warriors of all time. Nordheim is scheduled to arrive at retailers in the second quarter of 2017, and the Hyborian Age will never be the same again!
