The Under the Mask Expansion for T.I.M.E Stories Is Now Available

The heat is overwhelming. The air is suffocating, unbreathable. You are on board a felucca. The slight current of the Nile compensates for the lack of wind and moves your boat forward. On the eastern shore, the majestic city of Thebes is exposed before your eyes; impressive in its size, it strongly contrasts with the western shore, where the rocky desert shows nothing but a tonal shift.

Greetings, T.I.M.E Agent. Under the Mask, the second expansion for T.I.M.E Stories, is now available at retailers through the United States, and the situation is dire.

Surveillance units have detected a temporal anomaly on November 29th 1922, the day that archaeologist Howard Carter opened the tomb of King Tut. Unlike what was recorded in history, the pharaoh’s funeral mask was missing. Now you must act quickly; you cannot allow this temporal anomaly to disintegrate our history.

In Under the Mask, you and your fellow T.I.M.E Agents must travel back to ancient Egypt and into the Valley of Kings. There, you must find King Tut’s mask. More than that, you must restore it to its original condition, anointing it with black henbane before placing it back into the pharaoh's tomb.

To do this, you must first find the grave robbers responsible for looting Tut's tomb. You might even need to become them…

Transfers of Consciousness

One of the most entertaining aspects of T.I.M.E Stories is the unique way in which it deposits you into the shoes (and body) of another being. Due to the process of tachyon insertion, you can go anywhere and anytime, and you can be just about anyone. Every T.I.M.E Stories scenario introduces a number of "receptacles" that you can control over the course of your adventure. While in a receptacle's body, you gain use of not only the receptacle's physical attributes, but also its memories and mental talents, as well as any social connections it might have made.

Of course, since your receptacle is a living, breathing individual, you'll also discover that it has a unique personality, and you may find yourself – as a player – embracing that personality for the sake of roleplaying or in order to maintain the illusion that you're not an individual possessed by a consciousness from far in the future.

Click on any of the above receptacles to learn more.

Since every T.I.M.E Stories scenario allows you to explore life as a different receptacle, your experiences are always fresh from scenario to scenario. However, Under the Mask takes this concept one step further, introducing the use of the Instantaneous Transfer Device (ISD), which allows you to transfer your consciousness from one receptacle to another individual without forcing you first to return to your body in its caisson in the future.

Clever and calculated use of the ISD may help you extract information from the individuals you suspect are lying to you or withholding information from you. However, you have to be judicious in its use. It consumes a great deal of energy with each use, meaning you can only make a handful of transfers before it fails, and once you leave a receptacle, you might not be able to return to it.

Enter the Valley of Kings

Are you ready to travel to the past in order to save the future? If so, you're on your way to 1146 BC Thebes. There, the Valley of Kings is forbidden to anyone who isn’t specifically allowed entrance, and it’s the Medjay, the Nubian elite army, who are tasked with enforcing that decree.

Once you travel to ancient Egypt, you'll need to plan your investigation carefully, considering the distances between the various locations you might explore.

Head to your local retailer to pick up your copy of Under the Mask today! And if you haven't already experienced the joys of tachyon insertion, you'll be happy to know that the T.I.M.E Stories core set is also back in stock. So step into your caisson, and get started now. Good luck!
